High school football star killed in 2-car crash

A high school football star in California was killed in a two-car accident.

The 17-year-old was reportedly riding in a Jeep Wrangler, and he was in the back. However, the vehicle's back seat had been removed.

As they were traveling west down the road, the Wrangler began to drift toward the shoulder. The 18-year-old driver noticed that it was in danger of leaving the road entirely and tried to swerve back into the travel lane.

He overcorrected. The Wrangler shot across the road and into the oncoming lanes. There, a Lexus SUV was coming the other direction, and it slammed into the Wrangler, hitting it in the side.

That impact injured the two people in the front of the Wrangler, but they had their seat belts on. The young man in the back was thrown from the vehicle and landed in the road. The California Highway Patrol said that injury proved fatal and he passed away at the crash site.

The other two got out of it with minor to moderate injuries. There were two people in the Lexus, one of them a child, and they were both hurt as well. None of the other injuries are thought to be life-threatening, however.

The community was rocked by the sudden passing and students and families in the area mourned and expressed their condolences to the young man's parents and two brothers.

This crash shows just how quickly an accident can strike. One mistake on the road can take a life and impact a family forever, especially during the holiday season. It's important for the families of those who are killed to know what legal rights they have.
