Beware of these drowsy driving warning signs

Were you or a loved one injured – or was your loved one killed – by a driver who crossed the center line into oncoming traffic? Do police claim that no drugs or alcohol were involved in causing the collision?

It could be that the driver who caused the crash fell asleep. In fact, fatal accidents caused by drowsy drivers are more common than you might think – especially considering that many of them go unnoticed because police are unable to prove the fact that someone was recklessly sleepy behind the wheel.

What are the warning signs of being too sleepy to drive?

Drivers should take notice if they are experiencing the following warning signs of sleepy driving, and passengers should also take note if the people driving them are exhibiting these signs:

  • Frequent yawning and blinking
  • Having a hard time remembering the last several miles that were driven
  • Driving past an exit
  • Drifting into other lanes
  • Hitting rumble strips located on the edges of the roads
  • Literally falling asleep and nodding your head
  • Feeling like all you want to do is just fall asleep

Were you or a loved one hurt by a fatigued motorist?

It's important to investigate all potential causes of a crash – and never to rule out the possibility that the crash was caused by a fatigued or sleepy driver. Often, sleepy driving collisions appear as if they're unexplainable. Perhaps you end up asking, "Why would someone drive into oncoming traffic like that?" When a motor vehicle collision doesn't seem to make sense, you may want to investigate whether sleepy driving was to blame.
